Q: What is your creative process for your artwork?
A: "Well I always begin every piece with asking myself, "what is the message I want to convey?". From that point I brainstorm, sketch, narrow down the concept until I am fully in love with it and then decide on the best medium to bring it to life."
Q: What's your typical schedule like? Do you have a lot of free time to play and be creative?
A: "A typical day for me consists of meetings and presentations and more meetings and more presentations (you get the point), but I try to work in
some "self time" if I can. Usually that occurs at the end of the day when everyones gone from the office. Or take advantage of the train ride in and to work. I take that time to sketch a little, right down some random
thoughts or even elaborate on earlier ideas I may have had during the day."
Q: Can you tell us about a most recent project that you've felt really connected to?
A: "I would have to say it's been the "Poder de la Gente" piece I did for Hispanic Heritage Month. It hits close to home being that both my parents are from Guatemala and the piece reflects the Guatemalan Revolution and
Mayan Culture. I feel like I have a lot to say in regards to the other Latin American countries such as Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador, that don't get any air time. They have a really rich history and culture that needs to be shared."
Q: How do you attract clients?
A: "The funny thing is that I really haven't had the opportunity to market myself or my artwork appropriately. But I do have a great support group through family and friends that get
the word out whenever I'm having my work showcased. Most of the time it's through word of mouth or networking at different events."
Q: I know you created shirts with your artwork is that one of the avenues you are using to expose your artwork and where can someone purchase one?
A: "Definitely! Clothing is another opportunity to get my work out to the masses. I strive to create inspiring works of art whether it's on a wall, canvas or clothing. I'm currently working on a few more shirts and should
be coming out with a full line shortly. Right now I have "Volar Sin Alas" for sale, if anyone is interested they can email me to place an order at bodega@5in5o.com."
Q: Do you have any words of wisdom to offer someone aspiring to become an artist?
A: "Words of wisdom, let me see Always stay true to what you are trying to convey and never settle for less. Remember, your artwork is an extension of your voice, it speaks for you and represents you. Never force something,
it'll come to you.
Q: Can you please share with us your passion for art?
A: "I am a child with dreams and visions that never seem to end. I come from a family of artist, my grandfather, father and uncle all are great artists in their own right. And although my father is an artist, he never forced art
into my life, he just help nurture it. I guess you can say it was instilled in me from day one."
Q: What's your favorite Art-form?
A: "Wow, that's tough. I don't really have one. However, the one constant form of art in my life has always been music. It keeps me going through those late nights of trying to meet deadlines or keeps me "chilaxed" through the creative process. It's also very inspiring."
Q: Where are you from?
A: "I was born in Brooklyn NY and raised in Elizabeth NJ."
Q: What are your future plans?
A: "Hopefully get a good body or work that will attain global recognition. I ultimately want my work to touch people in a way they haven't been touched
before. I would like to open their eyes and see things from my perspective, and bring them into my world. Life is always changing and you must evolve with it."
